Happy China is an archival publication documenting artist Zhang Lehua’s residency project, bringing together comics, paper-cut works, installations, and other works produced during the residency.
The book adopts a French-fold structure, concealing textual content within folded pages. Images can be viewed as a continuous sequence, while opening the folds reveals notes, questions, and reflections behind the works, creating two parallel layers of reading between artwork and archive.
